Background:
Recently I've been renting cd's from the library to add to mb,
the problem is that they don't care for the conservation of the cover arts much, with: cutting apart, teiping together unrelated parts, gluing on, writing on library codes, stickers for automatic library lending/theft prevention and parts left out all together.
Issues:
The library naturally has releases that are common and are rescanned by tens of people and easily findable at sites like discogs, they also have releases that are quite rare and even impossible to find information about anywhere else - which is where the conservation of cover arts becomes a problem; often the cd art is unfit even for cursory scans and uploads to CAA.
Others:
This is not uncommon; people might not own scanners, have "crap scanners", not have time, inclination, know how or not find a good alternative in other places online - yet it should be uploaded to CAA if possible since this is the work of mb for conservatory purposes (some cover art is better than none at all etc)
Solution?
I had an idea to allow one to mark or flag an upload of cover art as "not optimal" (possibly to allow other editors to do so too?)
for situations where a better one is very difficult to obtain
on the screen for doing this/uploads it should be made clear that this is not to be used as an excuse to upload wrong or useless coverart where better is easily obtained, but for situations as described above.
