The Corno da caccia is a brass instrument that comes from the group of horn instruments.

          Origin: Italy/France

First used: start of 17th century Europe.
(Fit over the shoulder of huntsmen on horseback.)

Originally used for: signalling various commands to the hunting party as well as encouraging the hounds.
Began to be used in art music soon after (in compositions by Bach and Handel, among others)

Original inventor: unknown, but a modern version created by Ludwig Güttler.

Seems to be a subtype of the natural horn.
