The Pamiri rubab is a six-stringed fretless lute from Tajikistan.
Origin: Badakhshan region, Tajikistan
Description: Round bowl covered by hide, six strings made of catgut or nylon, one attached from mid-neck rather than usual head to bridge.
Usage/History: Generally an accompaniment for poetry and singing. Played held across the lap (as seen in attached video).
