The native name is ไหซอง.
Traditional Thai musical instruments describes it as "a set of earthenware jars with rubber bands stretched over the open mouths".
The booklet of Music of Northeast Thailand describes it as follows (p. 13):
A plucked instrument made of ceramic jar with rubber bands stretched over its mouth. The pitches are adjusted by the thickness of the rubber bands and the manner in which they are attached to the jar. It is normally used as a bass rhythm instrument in ensembles, usually in sets of five jars.
