'Hating' songs in ListenBrainz is a very useful function. It allows users to track their music dislikes, and gives very valuable data points for recommendation engines and other analysis.
From https://community.metabrainz.org/t/do-you-mark-songs-you-dont-like-as-hated/641299 it is clear that many people do not use it, partly due to the terminology. 'Hate' is a very strong word - many people would say they don't 'hate' any music. I suspect if we changed the terminology then people would use this function more.
Option 1, change the 'hate' function to something like:
- Dislike
- Pass
- Ehh
- ?
Option 2, change both 'love' and 'hate' functions to something like: - Like / Dislike
- More / Less
- ?
For Option 2 we could consider changing the icons as well. A up + down arrow combo is something people are used to, and would probably be more comfortable clicking without much thought. The heart icons have strong connotations also.
