Similar to PICARD-1357, it would be a good idea to add a Dark Mode option for the musicbrainz.org website.

I have written a custom dark theme for MB in 2021 as I wasn't satisfied with the results of Dark Reader and I'm using it ever since

I too would like to see an official dark mode soon!

I have started using https://darkreader.org/ and it does a pretty decent out-of-the-box job of darkening the MB site. Might be a good starting point if we want to bake in built-in dark mode support. It's offered under MIT license, so I think that means it would be okay to leverage that code.

I forgot to include it in the initial proposal (I don't know if it's all that important or even technically feasible) but it would also be nice if there was something in our website's code (would that be part of the CSS? I'm a little rusty on this) that automatically detects if the device/browser a user is using has Dark Mode enabled. I know some other websites and services already do this.

To tell you all the truth, the fact that MB doesn't support Dark Mode is the primary reason I've never enabled it.

Just look how many options RYM has!

But realistically speaking, if theming is ever to be implemented, it should ideally encompass a range of options. Especially inclusion of less contrasted, toned down version of dark and light theme.

It would be nice to have a dark mode and a darker mode kinda like what Tampermonkey has... So 3 options. I do like dark themes but not too dark, it need contrast a bit

I use Dark Reader everywhere that doesn't have a native dark mode but it's a little janky on some websites. A native dark mode on MB would be KILLER for me. I actually just noticed I already voted for this haha.

My Dark Reader settings got screwed up somehow and now some websites are being weird. I hope native dm becomes a thing here ):
