It has been known for a long time that iTunes URLs without the country part can lead to all kinds of results. Like non-working links.
Yet adding them or changing valid URLs to ones without the country is still possible.
People do it for various reasons: some think it makes the link somehow global, others dislike certain languages and so on
It shouldn't be the burden of voters to explain this over and over again. A few examples:
