On the aliases page, just below the tabs at the top of the page, there's a short explanatory note on the usage and purpose of aliases. In the second sentence, the word misspellings is misspelled (marked in bold):

An alias is an alternate name for an entity. They typically contain common mispellings or variations of the name and are also used to improve search results. View the alias documentation for more details.
