For compatibility with userscripts, it would be nice if datetimes were embedded in a page's HTML in a standard format. Otherwise, when a userscript needs to extract dates, such as the date when an edit will close, it has to rely on custom parsing to support all possible datetime formatting. This causes headaches.
Unix timestamps (or any other standard that can easily be parsed without special libraries) as a data attribute on the element that contains the timestamp would make extracting dates a lot easier for the userscript developers.
