Greetings.
Proposal: add a separate field for artist entity to store full (real)
name of an artist. By full name i mean "name - father/mother name - surname". That aspect of western culture is a bit unknown for me, so excuse me if it sounds weird from my side.
Warning: may be its a too personal proposal, but i hope others will see a use in it too.
In my practice of working with production music albums i noticed that most of composers there credited via full legal name just like they credited so in PRO units. Also often such credits (on label site) are the only one available at all (excluding PRO), because digital stores often dont show exact per track composer credits, just showing label/library. Also its quite often that composers doesnt have digital stores profiles or imdb profiles or an official site, so label site/PRO records are the only ones available at all.
I know that you can add legal names as the aliases, but my proposal for separate field is also about to allow Picard to use/select it as the "default" artist name. I'll try explain...
First of all this will stop argues and conflicts between editors about how to credit artist "by default". I mean argues about "full name" vs "shortened one", not argues about "alias" vs "real name", that another story. A recent case in my practice for example:
https://musicbrainz.org/artist/3c6082e0-b7ce-4d0c-8e44-6ab5a3bae392
I have added this artist as "Kavin Chuin-Wui Hoo", since he is a production music composer and credited mostly via full name on label site. He is also have 2 IPIs and by CISAC data among 197 tracks credited to full name, only 1 is credited to "Kavin Hoo". Today i noticed that other editor changed his name to "Kavin Hoo" may be because that one is used on his official site. Ok. In general i dont mind, but i still would prefer to have an ability to use his full name for my musicial collection (through Picard), because other composers in my collection already credited so way + i often work with PRO data and i am already used to see full names.
In second that would be useful if composer is credited by default via alias, but you still want to use his real name.
Also i probably forgot to add that such way is useful for me, because i display my musical collection through work level relationships, i.e. albums view is purely based on composer "tag" - thats why i am so interested in "default" composer name and in general dont care much how they credited on tracklist/recording level. I heard about Picard plugins that could change how artist is diplayed on tracklist/recordings level, but not for the work level.
I hope I made my point more or less clear.
