whenever I try and look up edits I've commented on that aren't mine, 99% of the time the edit search will time out because it takes too long...

don't know if there's a way to fix this, but a good alternative might be to have this search "baked-in" like the open edits page (https://musicbrainz.org/user/[username]/edits/open)
