- The (first release) date property of a release is omitted if there's no first release date. It cannot be empty or null.
- Like with releases, the first-release-date field of recordings is omitted if there is no first release date, and cannot be empty or null.
- However, the first-release-date field of release groups is always present and can be an empty string (but not null).
- The date property of a release event can be an empty string, but not null.
- Conversely, the begin and end properties of a life-span object can be null, but not an empty string.
