The current required version of Perl, 5.38, is out of support except for critical security patches; but those are only provided for 5.x releases within the last three years. That means 5.38 should no longer receive security fixes past July 2026.

Therefore we will require the latest available version of Perl, 5.42, for the May 2026 schema change.
