I think we should display the new edit number in the following post-edit message :

Thank you, your edit has been entered into the edit queue for peer review.

Like for instance see why it is usweful :
Imagine I want do something that takes two edits and that I want to mention the first edit in the second edit note .

1. Add a cover picture into cover art archive
2. Remove relationship link « has cover art at » URL

I have to click the release's Edit history link or my open edits link to copy the first edit number and paste it in second edit note.

If the first edit would have said something like :

Thank you, your edit (#17695109) has been entered into the edit queue for peer review.

The two-edits edit would be smoother.
