I was ripping some CDs with XLD. In this case, it found a match from FreeDB but for a different release. But actually I didn't want to do a release search in this case, I wanted to do an artist search, and there's no way to switch between them other than by editing the URL by hand. It should be possible to switch between the two, so if the first search fails, you can switch to the other (or even better, merge the two so you can search by one, the other or both)
