We have a search hidden somewhere in the rarely-used /search page that lets users give an MBID and get the entity. But there seems to be no reason we can't just redirect musicbrainz.org/mbid/$mbid to musicbrainz.org/$entity_type/$mbid and make it much more straightforward.
