Not able to start the OSX version linked here:

      https://github.com/metabrainz/picard/releases/tag/2.0.0.dev4

In both systems there was also the stable version. I've removed the stable version + cache, but no changes.

      Crash report on 10.12.6 attached

I can confirm: https://transfer.sh/JMCeS/MusicBrainz%20Picard%202.0.0.final0_osx_20180727220448.dmg is working good on my Core 2 Duo.

Any chance to have fixed also the latest version?

thank you very much guys for your help

Can confirm that the build produced by  https://github.com/metabrainz/picard/pull/911 runs on a Core 2 Duo processor.

The test build provided for https://github.com/metabrainz/picard/pull/911 (https://transfer.sh/JMCeS/MusicBrainz%20Picard%202.0.0.final0_osx_20180727220448.dmg) uses a different Python build, can you try with that build?

https://github.com/fman-users/fman/issues/332 suggests that this really is a problem that happens on systems with Core 2 Duo processors.

Confirmed reproduction on a Core 2 Duo 2009 iMac. Next step is to try getting the release built with better optimized CFLAGS and seeing if that fixes the problem.

@nesys I have procured a Mac of the appropriate vintage (core 2 duo era) and I'm loading 10.11 or 10.12 on it today to try to reproduce. Thank you for the generous offer, but I don't need access to your machine. Will report back once I've got things up and running.

At least that confirms that it isn't some corrupt preference/cache file.

I've created a new "test" user from scratch ... same issue, exactly the same

Have you tried opening Picard on a different user account on the Mac?
