Every step of the processes is painfully slow. From adding a single album to the left pain to saving the files.

I sometimes have to restart because the process of dragging a file from windows explorer hangs up both picard and the windows explorer.

When it does work, I need to check the log to see if it is still working and to see if it has imported all the files. According to the log posted below, it took 27 minutes just to drag a 10 CD boxed set into the left pane.

After hitting save, it took 4 hours just to save and move the same 230 files. My computer is no slouch and my network is gigabit. It only takes about 5 or 10 minutes to move 2 GB of files outside of picard

My search for a cause/solution has shown that some people are able to process 1000s of files with little to no issue. While other users are experiencing the same problem. I am guessing it maybe in the settings somewhere

I am going to close this, as I don't think there is enough information here to make this actionable or narrow down the issue.

The logs show that it takes roughly 1 minute for saving the files (which for 230 files than gives you the reported roughly 4 hours).

About half of the time is spent writing the tags to the file on the network share at \\\\192.168.1.150 , the other half it uses to copy the file over from the network share at \\\\192.168.1.150 to another network share at \\\\tower.

That writing the tags takes about the same amount of time then moving indicates that the padding in the files is not sufficient for the written tags, so the entire needs to be rewritten. I don't know how large the files are, but for FLAC you usually end up with something between 30 and 60 MiB for typical pop song lengths. That gives copying speed of 1-2 MiB per second.

For reference: How long does it take for you to copy FLAC files from \\\\192.168.1.150 to \\\\tower using Explorer?

Question, can you try repeating everything you've done but locally instead of using remote folders?
It may be something with the file sizes, with the network, with Picard or with Mutagen (this immediately reminded me of https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/PICARD-1878).
