I think the option "Use standardized artist names" should be turned on by default. If the option is turned off, then organizing audio files into artist folders has unexpected results. As an example, you typically wouldn't want to have both "The Prodigy" and "Prodigy" as two different folders for the same artist, just because some of the releases of this release group happen to be credited to "Prodigy" (and not to "The Prodigy").

@Philipp Not really, unfortunately. I've posted my concerns about this on https://community.metabrainz.org/t/642755/13  since it seems that most of the discussion happens over there.

@Mathias The currently discussed idea is to revert this change, but to add new variables that provide access to the standardized artist name. We would then also change the default file naming scripts to use the standardized names for the file naming. Do you think this would resolve the concerns here?

I think that the concern is what I described in the forum post linked by yindesu. Standardized artist names seem uncontroversial when an artist adds or removes "The" from their name. However, if an artist releases a few albums as "Has-Lo" and then starts releasing albums as "Anwar HighSign", users may not expect Picard to credit the earlier albums to "Anwar HighSign" (to name two artists that I was considering merging today).

The reasoning for turning this option on is given above. Can you please argue why you would prefer to keep this option off by default?
