Show progress when saving/loading sessions and increase performance

      Saving or loading sessions currently causes the UI to be unresponsive. Also loading large sessions uses a lot of RAM. The process should be optimized.

      Some ideas:

      1. During loading / saving  show a progress indicator, but otherwise disable interaction with the UI. If possible, show a "Cancel" button.
      2. Perform as much of the actual processing in a separate thread to keep the UI thread responsive.
      3. Use sqlite for session storage
