Soft visual, or sofubi (ソフビ or ソフヴィ) is a subgenre of visual kei that is differentiated by its pop-rock influenced songwriting sensibilities and - as the name suggests - softer visuals, usually manifesting in the form of lighter makeup and slightly more conventional hair/dress styling. Bands that fall into this category are still unmistakably visual kei as a consequence of their heavy connections to the scene and regular appearances on vkei lineups, but are too distinct from the rest of the sound and occupy a clear enough niche for calling them just "visual" to paint a complete picture. An official soft visual genre tag would be very useful as a companion to the visual kei genre tag for these reasons - there is such an entity already present on RateYourMusic.

This ticket is specifically requesting the implementation of genre tag "soft visual". In the future, when tag redirects/aliasing becomes possible, "sofubi", "ソフビ" "ソフビ系", "ソフヴィ", "ソフヴィ系", "ソフトビジュアル系", and "ソフトヴィジュアル系" should all resolve to "soft visual". Note there is some existing precedent for the introduction of visual kei subgenres to the MusicBrainz database, see STYLE-2451.
