Only allow using work-work "translated" attribute if lyrics are actually translated

      following some reflections in several edits (https://musicbrainz.org/edit/26499359 this is the most recent).

      If, as described in wiki doc it only means work A is different language than work B, then this is bogus info as we already know that from the song A and B's languages, this should be automatically displayed in this case.

      Or if it really means TRANSLATED (not adapted) then we should update wikidoc but then this AR could be use only very seldomly because it almost never happens.

          I'm going to go with highstrung's suggestion in https://community.metabrainz.org/t/translations-of-works/217/18:

          This attribute indicates that lyrics have been translated, literally or freely, from the original language. This does not apply if an entirely new set of lyrics have been set to an an existing melody.

          But anyway your comment should rather be made in STYLE-234, I think.

          But the doc says to check it even when lyrics are unrelated.
          Do you think it's not a problem?

           

          How useful is this attribute if it just means different language?

          We can already see it's a different language, simply looking at work languages.
          If translated attribute == different language, then we should remove this redundant attribute.

          I don't think there's any problem with the term "translated". It's frequently used in literature and well understood to not necessarily mean literal word-for-word translation.

          I agree that the TRANSLATED attribute, as defined now, is useless.

          Suggestion: create a new attribute "FAITHFUL TRANSLATION", for cases where it is actually a version with the same meaning in a different language. That's a judgement call, of course, as word-for-word correct translations are rare...
