There's a few historical areas that were grandfathered in because they were in the original list we used for release countries (this, the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, a couple more). But yeah, adding new ones is not something we have generally done. I could see adding this one though as it was an actual country and has actual releases, which is true of a fairly small amount of historical areas and might be a better reason than just "someone was born in this no-longer-existing place".

You are talking about adding a country to the country list we use for labels. That is a different list than for Areas.

Historical Area is out of scope for what we want for Areas, the history of all the towns and cities, would be very messy, so we don't do historical, we use what the area is today. This isn't an areas database.

Would appreciate some clarification on "we don't do", considering that apparently historically we did.

reassinging to reosarevok as its a country, so it could be added there, but i'll imagine this will be a wont fix for him as well
