In many countries, the removal of copyright information is a violation of law.
Currently, thumbnail generation removes copyright information.
Example: https://musicbrainz.org/edit/60132626
I uploaded a file from a website of the label Random House.
Apparently, when generating the thumbnail images, the copyright information is deleted.
One can look at the metadata of both images (original file [1] and 500px-thumbnail [2]), for example, with the online tool "Jeffrey's Image Metadata Viewer": http://exif.regex.info/exif.cgi

[2] https://ia801408.us.archive.org/21/items/mbid-c4ab95cf-76dd-4610-aa51-e5f6db76b14c/mbid-c4ab95cf-76dd-4610-aa51-e5f6db76b14c-22531498729_thumb500.jpg
In the metadata of [1] the string "(c) Verlagsgruppe Random House GmbH, Muenchen" can be found in the IPTC field "Copyright Notice".
At [2] the field is missing.
This means, that when the thumbnail file was created, the copyright notice was removed.
Cover Art Archive should avoid removing copyright information.
I have a suspicion of what could be the cause. In the past I had the same problem and I could solve it.
To solve this problem, I offer my support.
I'm interested in how the current generation of thumbnail images works. Is the code publicly available? If so, I'm interested in a link to the code.
It not only affects the conversion of image files, but also the generation of thumbnail files from PDF files.
