      • Name: Junjung is a sacred Dunun of the Serer people ('Dunun' is a¬†generic name for a family of West African drums)
      • Appearance: The Junjung was a cylindrical drum with rawhide skin on each end (sample image).
      • Also Known As: Gungun and Dyoung-dyoung
      • Usage: The Junjung was used as a royal war drum by the Serer people in Senegal and Gambia. It was played on the way to the battlefield, special State occasions, and Serer religious ceremonies.¬†
      • How it's played: Traditionally, the Junjung is held with straps or placed on a stand and is played horizontally, with the dominant hand hitting the drum.
