NAME-Jal Tarang
MEANING - "Jal Tarang" means 'waves in water'
DESCRIPTION-The Jal Tarang is a classical Indian musical instrument valued for its melodious and dynamic tones. It consists of a set of bowls with are either porcelain or metallic which are filled with water. This traditional instrument is used in Indian Classical music. Among all the instruments of historical importance Jal Tarang is probably the most prominent and ancient.
METHOD OF PLAYING- The bowls are arranged in front of the player in a semi-circular format. They are arranged in such a way that they are easily accessible to the player.(The number of cups depends on the melody being played.). The player then gently strikes each cup filled with water using a wooden stick to produce various sounds. Tuning the instrument is not an easy job and requires high skill.
