Description: The plain surface of Padayani Thappu is made from animal skin. The animal skin is first heated, then cooled by rubbing leaves of a certain plant. Afterwards, the animal skin is glued to circular wooden frame. Unlike other Indian percussion instruments, the Padayani Thappu does not contain strings and it is played using both hands. It is mostly played during the ritual art of Padayani.
