Currently, we can link recordings with the "link with MusicBrainz" modal, but we don't link to a specific release, causing some potential mismatches when a user tries to fix a bad mapping.
First, some context:
Issue reported on bluesky, see the attached screenshots.
The examples in question is at the top of this page: https://listenbrainz.org/user/externdefs/?max_ts=1701283497
The track "over the top" shows a cover art for another album by another artist and links to https://musicbrainz.org/release/f2fbb44a-ee7b-479e-a115-232c2a6b5e39 instead of https://musicbrainz.org/release/cea49c7a-2811-42a4-93b9-72abf65e55ff
This is the various artists release chosen by the MBID mapper and the recording is https://musicbrainz.org/recording/3205beea-1323-4164-87d0-9965bed27915
Now to the issue with the mapper: when we try to correct the bad match by pasting in the desired recording https://musicbrainz.org/recording/6e0b3ecf-973b-4e6e-ae7f-d5ee4a1183b0 the mapping works, and the listen card track title links to the right recording.
However no release information is mapped, and the incorrect automatic mapping match remains, resulting in a recording and a release that don't have anything to do with each other.
