Sorry if this is potentially a duplicate issue, or best discussed elsewhere, but I hope that ListenBrainz will take steps to protect user privacy when exposing listening data.
Listening data is in some ways highly personal, it's a timestamped log of activity, even if the activities are "this person listened to a song at this time".
The following options might be good to think about:
- Allowing users to keep their listens private, possibly while still allowing their listens to be public in an anonymized formĀ
- Allowing users to make their listens available but not in real time, possibly only after a delay of a few days
- Allowing users to make their listens available without full timestamp resolution. For example, with the resolution reduced to the day, but not the hour or minute
