I'm not quite sure what I'm asking for here - 

I'd like a way to be able to test a single element without having to wire it into a pipeline, or ensure that it generates the correct output to be able to generate a playlist. This could be for development or other testing purposes.

Perhaps all that's necessary is a solid testing pipeline to be able to run tests easily.
