Show a history of relevant applied edits prior to submitting a new release edit

XMLWordPrintable

In an effort to reduce harmful edits that would normally get automatically applied, this feature request is to display a list of relevant applied edits when editing a release.

"Relevant applied edits" are meant to be any edit that previously altered the same field you are trying to submit the new edit for.

I think the minimum viable feature in this case is to simply display the list of edits as links for releases only. The reason this feature request only applies for releases, is because it provides a natural place to display the links on the final page next to where all your changes are displayed and you type your edit note. If it's a trivial addition to extend this to non-release edits, then feel free to amend this feature request.

      Example

Track 1 - title: "Out Of Sight"

Edit 1: Initial track edit. Provides proof of artistic intent for the normally incorrect capitalization "Of"
Edit 2: Wrongly changes title to "Out of Sight". This editor doesn't realize that artistic intent exists, but nonetheless, this edit is automatically applied.

With this feature, the hopeful workflow is:

Editor 2 attempts to change the track title, but prior to submission sees a link referring to an edit that had previously changed Track 1's title. Curious and eager to ensure they aren't making a mistake, they click the link and see Editor 1's note on artistic intent. They then choose to discard the edit prior to submission.

      Potential future enhancements
      1. Show a similar list on open edits to provide voters more information without having to dig back and see why certain changes were made previously.
      2. Extend this to display for non-release edits as well.
      3. Adjust interface to allow inlining the relevant edit history without having to leave the page and view external edit links. Maybe this is better suited after the transition to react.
