I don’t do a lot of editing these days, so it’s worrying how often I see digital media with ancient release dates. Many online stores display only the original release date, and apparently lots of editors just copy that (or use an import script without checking). See for example: https://beta.musicbrainz.org/edit/72356157
Would it be possible to:
- warn users trying to add a release date that is identical to a release date already attached to a physical release. Releases are often released physically and digitally on the same day these days, but that is pretty recent. So maybe only warn users when said release date is before 2015 or something like that.
- flat out make it impossible to add a release date for digital media when that date precedes the launch of the first online music store.
- better educate new users?
It may also be clearer if “Digital media” were called “Digital download”, but that’s something for another ticket.
