If you look at the 11 studio albums by The Smashing Pumpkins on Musicbrainz, you will see that 8 are credited to "The Smashing Pumpkins", while 3 are credited to just "Smashing Pumpkins" (due to the inconsistency of the record labels).  The result of this is a problem with sorting lists in My Collections on Musicbrainz – the albums credited to "Smashing Pumpkins" are sorted under "S", while the albums credited to "The Smashing Pumpkins" are sorted under "T".  This problem is not unique to this particular artist – I have this same problem with various artists where the "The" in the name is sometimes used and sometimes not used (e.g. "Pretenders" vs "The Pretenders").  Perhaps the sort in Musicbrainz needs to be fixed – i.e. Musicbrainz should not sort on "The".
