Edit search can take some resources and time if not refined enough. Some filters are known to take more time than others. It can lead to timeout and it more generally means that some server resources are not used appropriately and are not available for other requests during that time.
To mitigate this issue, as we are most often looking for recent edits, it could be helpful to preselect the filter “Created” “after” “2 weeks ago”. The duration is arbitrarily taken from “Voting suggestions” on “Edits by beginners” but it could be easily extended.
Discarding this search condition when needed would only take one click, whereas in contrast refining a search takes some clicks. Optimizing performances is not really the concern of the user when they trigger a search anyway.
Overall it should be less hassle and wasted time for users to have a functional edit search, even in edge cases.
