When removing tracks above a set of tracks, the track parser associates the recordings numbered from the start of the original medium.
This can be reproduced as follows:
- Edit a release, e.g. with five tracks
- Navigate to the track-list tab and open the track parser
- Delete tracks 1-3
- Click "parse tracks"
- Navigate to the recordings tab
The expected behaviour is that, the remaining tracks, which were originally tracks 4-5, would be associated with the original recordings 4-5. In fact, they are associated with tracks 1-2.
Here is an example:
https://musicbrainz.org/release/0dbe4ffd-20be-479b-b928-613bfd45c02f
If tracks 1-3 are removed, the track list shows "Pleasure City" and "Hyde Park Song" as expected, but the recordings associated with these tracks are actually "Travellin'" and "Compassion".
This is particularly a problem when splitting a single medium into two. The quickest way to do this is to add a second medium using the existing medium, then, open the track parser and remove tracks which are associated with that first disc. I believe I have experienced this behaviour before but I assumed that it was something whitch I had done. I have attached a screenshot of such a result, for a release which should have two discs of six tracks. (https://musicbrainz.org/release/b97ba7f6-eb09-46f6-979d-0748cad19f94).
I've tried searching for tickets under track parser but it doesn't look like such an issue has been reported.
