https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Terminology#Mix_terminology already contains a hip hop clarification:
Note: not everything called "remix" is really a remix in the classic sense. In hip hop especially, it's typical to call "remix" to a new version of a song with different guest rappers; these should probably not be linked to any artist as "remixer".
It's also common to see "remix" used incorrectly in the VGM community for covers/arrangements - for example, here: https://www.xenoserieswiki.org/w/index.php?title=Elaice_Highway_(music)&oldid=148060
I would propose expanding the MusicBrainz documentation:
Note: not everything called "remix" is really a remix in the classic sense.
- In hip hop, it's typical to call a new version of a song with different vocalists and lyrics a "remix"; these should not be linked to any artist as "remixer".
- In video game music, "remix" is commonly used to describe arrangements and covers. These are not remixes as defined above.
