I agree the drop-down should be focused. I don't mind using tab to get to the text field when I don't need to change the entity type, and I have to change the type often, so I'd rather it be focused. If jesus2099's idea was added to the site, I wouldn't mind as much.

This patch sets the drop-down to be focused, but if it needs to be changed it's only a single line:

You prefer the dropdown to be focused, I see why.
But you wouldn't any more if this drop down state was memorized, like with "Remember last used AR type and target" userjs (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/85790).

EDIT/ I've just added this AUTO-FOCUS feature in this userscript

• Inline AJAX search called "Relate to ...", focus main text field (and optionally remember last search type), then after typed and selected entity (w/ arrow keys ↓↑ then ENTER key — works), launch the relationship edit page mouse-less.
