I believe the canonical data can be useful for many projects using MusicBrainz database, however its access remains hard as it requires downloading the full data dump or using the MBID mapping scripts of ListenBrainz server, which doesn't seem to correspond exactly to the codebase.

It would be very practical to be able to access a release group's canonical release (and similarly for releases and recordings) through the MusicBrainz API, for example, by adding a `canonical` include for request involving releases, release groups, and recordings.
