As discussed at https://community.metabrainz.org/t/search-for-discogs-id/725807, it would be nice if there were an option (maybe on by default) for normalization to be performed when searching for URLs.

Right now, if I search for a URL like https://volaband.bandcamp.com/album/friend-of-a-phantom?from=fanpub_fnb via the URL field at https://musicbrainz.org/search or via a https://musicbrainz.org/otherlookup/url?other-lookup.url=%s custom search engine in my browser, I get no results. If I manually delete the ?from=fanpub_fnb query string from the end of the URL, I get the expected release.

I think that the logic for cleaning up URLs is at root/static/scripts/edit/URLCleanup.js. It might only run client-side, so I'm not sure how feasible it'd be to use it when performing searches.
