For any classical composer's works list, even should we create one complete works listing (and figure out how to sort by work cat #), it'll be a mess, with all the translation, arrangement, medley, remix (etc? other ARs?) works mixed in, making it really difficult to determine the right work for a recording, to to find a work you're interested in, or simply to get a clean and complete list of that composer's works (rather than that composer, plus anyone who touched that composer's works, etc...)
This is not limited to classical, however. Look at Bob Dylan: http://musicbrainz.org/artist/72c536dc-7137-4477-a521-567eeb840fa8/works There already are translation works popping up in there - valid works, but not Dylan compositions. They're "translation of a Dylan composition" or "arrangement of a Dylan composition".
If three new subsections were added, then any work which has a "version of", "translation of", or "remix/medley of" AR, where the target work is [that artist]'s work, the targetting work would move to the subsection. So http://musicbrainz.org/work/d3109c6d-7631-4b93-9f93-298077b7df9c (The First Noel) would be in the main listing, as http://musicbrainz.org/work/631091d0-feb9-4edd-ac43-95ab24b3bc23 (The First Noël) is not a Dylan work (as composer, lyricist, or librettist), but http://musicbrainz.org/work/1600f979-dde6-3a00-ac9b-c5eaba7a4477 (När vårt skepp slår till) would be in the translations section, as http://musicbrainz.org/work/e393936f-b863-466a-9c84-50a51d995268 (When the Ship Comes In) is (also) a Dylan work.
