As discussed in the dev meeting of 2012-5-15[1]:

The artist overview display should show all RGs which are not compilations, and which contain at least one official release, and then have a "show more..." button which would javascriptily show all the rest.

A mockup was created showing how this might look[2], based on the original in MB [3].

It may be wise to combine the "show more" with the "Show Various Artist release groups instead." link so that there aren't several different "show more" items, but I don't have a suggestion for how to do that.
