Add a button which allows editors to state explicitly that a release should not have any cover art.

For example, the editor clicks the "Add Cover Art" button, then instead of selecting a file as usual, a checkbox is ticked to say "No Artwork".

This setting would override any cover art included as a side-effect of a relationship (eg. Amazon ASIN), but would be automatically unset if a user attached a cover art image or specifically linked to cover art and the edit was successfully applied.

Any editor uploading new cover art would have to untick the "No Cover Artwork" box when adding new artwork.

Hmm, for pseudo-releases at the very least we could exclude them from the report, since it's pointless for them to be there and that'd be a much quicker fix than this (we can still add this later as a schema change). I added MBS-13486 for that. I also added MBS-13487 to mention on pseudo-releases' cover art tab that it shouldn't generally be used.

I am literally begging for this. I do tons of CA uploads. I like going through the reports and doing a mass import session. I now have to go through and 4x check 2410 edits and their releases because the fact that pseudo releases do not get artwork is not listed on ANY cover art page and for some reason is listed under the "needs CA" report despite not needing it.

I would also love to see this feature implemented. It becomes tedious to continually have to block/remove fan art from some releases. The MB UI can also make it seem like a release without art is 'incomplete' with something to be filled in when there is no cover.

I have iterated on Ben's mockup and submitted my own ('no cover art toggle 2021-05-12').
          It includes:

          • No cover art toggle
          • Icon to be displayed where cover art would go (helps identify art-less releases in a release group, just like an image/scan does)
          • Warning/double check when un-setting the toggle, based on existing 'artist with this name already exists' text

I don't have any particular problem with ASIN relationships (e.g. nikki's comment) but in those cases this should replace those images I guess.

The example wasn't meant to be of a release where this applies, I just picked one at random from my history, it was just to show the kind of idea I had in mind.

And of course, the upload page is probably not the best place to put it - perhaps on the main cover art page instead?

How common it is really to have a release with a correct ASIN with the wrong cover where you know the cover is wrong and you can't find a single image to replace it? (e.g. if http://www.ebay.de/itm/120998759101 is correct, http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51XXw8xD5mL.jpg would appear to be the right cover for your example)

I definitely don't think this belongs as part of the cover art upload page, because I think it's really misleading there. That makes it sound like the release actually has no cover art, when what you're actually trying to do is prevent cover art from being fetched from the ASIN relationship.
