Reports just access to a database to generate results. They also use musicbrainz-server templates to display the results but because reports cannot be sorted or filtered (except by subscribed entities) the templates are very restrictive - and the reports alot less useful then they could be.

It would be easier to add reports if we didnt have to edit mbserver code and run a full server to check. Instead we could create new project using python (if thats now the preferred language) with the only dependency being an musicbrainz database (i.e could just use mbslave).

I think we would end up with more involvement and better more flexible reports, for a start we already have lots of musicbrainz users running mbslave and like me some will have created their own sql reports but cannot easily move them into musicbrainz server itself.
