While investigating how best to do STYLE-488, the biggest problem I can see is that we currently have 356,647 Wikipedia URLs. Even removing 1000 per day, that would take a whole year. Doing these edits as votable edits is clearly not feasible.
The easiest option would be to make it possible for auto-editors to remove Wikipedia URLs as auto-edits. That made me wonder whether we could just make all remove URL edits auto-editable. It seems there were only 67 failed remove URL relationship edits in the past year in total (none of which were by auto-editors) and just over 100 cancelled edits. Since the URL is stored in the edit history, it can be re-added later if it gets removed by mistake.
Doing this would also make it possible for auto-editors to just approve both edits if the way an editor fixes a URL results in an add and a remove edit rather than a single edit edit.
