Events were, among other things, also intended to become a crowdsourced concert calendar, but this doesn't seem to gain momentum (at the time of writing, there are less than 150 future events in the database, worldwide). One reason might be that events are not easily accessible for that purpose; while you can get a list of events occurring in a particular venue, or held by a particular performer, there is no page to go to for the user who is thinking "I don't know how to spend my evening today, is there perhaps an interesting concert in my town?"

I think we should provide an aggregate view of future concerts happening in a particular region, over all venues. This could be a list or a map on which places are marked with different colours or symbols for events today/later this week/even later, or possibly a combination. The region to be considered could be taken from the user's position if their browser provides that information, or the user choose a region on a map (the position could then be stored in a cookie for later visits).

An open question is where such a list or map should be displayed. There has been talk about a user dashboard forever (MBS-161), but it's unlikely to happen in the near future. The upcoming events could be shown on the home page, too, which would also help addressing the longstanding concern that the latter is too static. However, there may not be enough space for a map at a useful size. A dedicated page is also an option.

Such a feature in a highly-visible place on the site would hopefully attract the attention of fans wanting to promote their favourite artist, and in the end of the performers themselves or their managers, thereby improving our coverage of events.
