Eluveitie has a number of songs in the extinct Gaulish language. It would be nice to have it reflected in the database.
However, what makes things complicated, is that they use "a reconstructed form" of Gaulish, rather than any one of the (fragmentarily) attested forms codified in ISO-639-3:
      xtg - Transalpine Gaulish
xga - Galatian (can be ignored here due to geographical placement in present-day Turkey)
      xcg - Cisalpine Gaulish
      xlp - Lepontic

Looking at Eluveitie's lyrics, it indeed looks like they have used sounds (xs, nd, word-final m) which have become variously assimilated in the individual variants (according to Wikipedia anyway: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaulish_language). Since ISO-639-3 doesn't have a code for Gaulish macro- (or rather, proto-) language, maybe an ad-hoc code (i.e. in the qaa-qtz range) can be used in the database, e.g. qga or qgl?

MusicBrainz currently relies on the standard ISO-639-3 language codes. Even though MusicBrainz may support other linguistic register in the future such as Linguasphere (MBS-9182) or Glottolog, none of these indexes Gaulish language, both refer to the above mentioned (fragmentarily) attested forms only.

As for Eluveitie’s songs, I wonder whether the “reconstructed form” of Gaulish they use is Modern Gaulish? Actually, ISO-639-3 just rejected Modern Gaulish on the basis it does not appear to be used in a variety of domains nor for communication with in a community which includes all ages. (Hence my motivation for supporting other linguistic register too in MBS-9182.) Note that Glottolog covers artificial languages while Linguasphere doesn’t.

Having an entry for either Gaulish language or that reconstructed form (whether it is Modern Gaulish or another form) in some third party linguistic register is a requirement for potential inclusion in MusicBrainz, thus closing this request as Invalid (at least for now).

Alternatively (until then), works’ metadata can be improved by using annotation and “Artificial (Other)” language attribute additionally to the current tag “gaulish”.

No to making up an ad-hoc code from me.
