Sometimes (but not always), running compile_resources.sh (which invokes gulp) will result in a corrupt rev-manifest bundle (at root/static/build/scripts/rev-manifest-$HASH.js), which won't contain a valid JSON object literal in the source, and will throw an error when executed in a browser. This happens quite often in the MBS docker containers, and I've been able to reproduce it locally too (just not consistently).
