The main issue with the lyrics whitelist is that while protecting us from dodgy sites that risk us being sued, it also blocks any links to lyrics on the artists' own websites, since it's unreasonable to separately whitelist all of those.
I'm not sure how doable it is, but it would make sense to have a secondary automatic mechanism on top of the standard whitelist that allows a URL to be used as a lyrics link if and only if the domain is the same as the official website for an artist related to the work. Say, if the composer has an official website matching this URL, it would be accepted. Or a performer, ideally, although that's yet another level away.
