In Transifex, glossaries were a bit wild, mostly edited separately in each target language, without much coordination, often containing infrequent terms that are not really relevant for a glossary intended for translators only.
Not only we imported these not maintained glossaries, but Weblate also generated some for the new languages based on the English glossary mostly if I understood correctly.
The task is to cleanup all glossaries for all languages as follows:
- Drop the irrelevant terms (e.g. 8-inch cartridge) from the target language glossaries only: Do not remove it from the English glossary as it will otherwise eventually re-pop!
- From tools drop-down, mark as terminology terms that should be shared across all languages (it actually just sets the flag terminology)
- Then in the English glossary:
- Set the field source string explanation with a descriptive sentence
- Flag plural terms as variants of singular terms (e.g. by adding the flag variant:alias to the term aliases); otherwise add plural terms from tools drop-down: add variant for this string.
- Copy the field source string explanation from the singular term to its plural variant and append (plural form) to it.
Note that all the strings in the English glossaries are marked as read-only but can generally be translated in other languages.
Here is a list of terms that should be deleted in case these re-pop:
