When using picard to save the title tag these don't update, it normally uses the default track name that it had before going through picard. for example i had an album and all the songs were named ``split-trackxx`` (xx representing the numbers) when i run this through picard the title doesn't update and when i save it, it still uses split track (attachements show my issue with my settings).

Not sure I understand your last comment. But please really check whether you have added the title tag to the list of tags in Options > Tags under "Preserve these tags from being cleared or overwritten with MusicBrainz data".

You description sounds like that's the case.

title is an option when you right out %t–, the only one that uses that tag

Could it be that you have "title" set as a preserved tag in Options > Metadata
